A person thinks when he serves the Lord that it is totally worthless. He receives hardships and trials for his efforts, rather than rewards and encouragement. No matter how much he tries to put a smile on his face or reveal the joy in his heart, that bitter pang of weariness always comes up and makes him feel downtrodden. If an individual looks around the world, the pleasures are so enticing and sin looks so inviting. There are those lost sinners enjoying the comforts of life and pleasing the desires of the flesh while you are breaking your back out for God without any benefit so far. Everyone is living up to the life that they want, but you are not. That is why we feel many times that our work for Christ is totally worthless and the world out there is so worth it. In reality though, the pleasures of sin is totally worthless and our spiritual labor is so worth it. When an individual tastes every delectable thing that the world has to offer, he will taste emptiness and bitterness in the end. However, the individual who tastes the life of a hard-working Christian will taste the rich goodness of the Lord. After hearing this sermon, the discouraged believer will realize that everything in life is totally worthless, except the life in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Malachi 3:14
Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the Lord of hosts?

  1. Is There Vanity?
  2. Is There Value?
  3. Is There Vexation?
