From the main text, God is not simply condemning Buddhists who bow down to a Buddha statue or Catholics who bow down to a Virgin Mary image. He is condemning idolatry in the heart. What idol do you have in your heart as the priority of worship? Jesus is supposed to be in your heart and the sole object of worship, but there are Christians who put a certain idol or numerous idols as the object of worship. Saved believers are beginning to build a foundation for the idol in their hearts, gild it with attractive gold and silver, and block their focus on God with the idol. People love something more than the Lord, which is why they are idolaters. People spend the majority of their time on something more than God, which is why they are idolaters. People use the best of their talents and resources on something more than God, which is why they are idolaters. Members in the congregation are coming to church in order to worship the Heavenly Father on Sunday, but they leave the building to worship the idols back in their homes during the rest of the week. Christians are infested with idols and they need to be cleaned out.

Ezekiel 14:3
Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?

  1. Setting Against the Worship of God
  2. Stumbling Before the Face of God
