“Take up the Bible, compare the religion of the Latter-day Saints with it, and see if it will stand the test,”  Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol.16, p.46

Mormonism Encourages You To …

“… learn to do as you are told…if you are told by your leader to do a thing, do it.  None of your business whether it is right or wrong.  Journal of Discourses, vol. 6 p. 32

“…Lucifer…wins a great victory when he can get the members of the Church to speak against their leaders and do their own thinking…” Improvement ERA, 1924

Many, even Millions of gods

“…you have got to learn how to be Gods yourselves,…the same as all Gods have done before you,…” Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith by Joseph Fielding Smith, p. 346

“Brethren, 225,000 of you are here tonight.  I suppose 225,000 of you may become gods…” Spencer W. Kimball, Ensign, Nov. 1975, p. 80

“If we should take a million of worlds like this and number their particles, we should find that there are more Gods than there are particles of matter in those worlds.”  Orson Pratt, Journal of Discourses, Vol.2, p. 345

The God of The Bible Encourages You To…

Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” 1 Thessalonians 5:21

Study to shew thyself approved unto God,…” 2 Timothy 2:15

“…Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.” Matthew 22:29

The Bible warns about how to test false prophets.  1st-If their prophecies fail.  2nd-If they lead you to worship other gods.  You are not to fear or follow them.  Deuteronomy 13:1-11, 18:20-22 & Exodus 20:3) Is the God of the Bible the same as the god of Mormonism?

Only One God

“…I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.  I, even I, am the LORD;…” Isaiah 43:10-11

“…I am the first, and I am the last;…” Isaiah 44:6

“Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.”  Isaiah 45:22

Men can and have become gods

“As man is, God once was, as God is, man may become.”  Lorenzo Snow, Millennial Star, Vol. 54, p. 404

“…man is the offspring of God; …having within him the seeds of godhood and thus being a god in embryo,…” Miracle of Forgiveness by Spencer W. Kimball, p. 3

“…We are created,…to become Gods…” Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 3, p. 93

God is an exalted man

“God himself is an exalted man, perfected, enthroned and supreme.”  Joseph Fielding Smith, Improvement ERA, Vol. 13, p. 81

“The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s;…” Doctrines and Covenants 130:22

“God himself, the Father of us all, is a glorified, exalted, immortal, resurrected Man!” Mormon Doctrine by Bruce R. McConkie, p. 643

Man is not, nor ever will be a god

“God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent:…”Numbers 23:19

“…for I am God, and not man;…” Hosea 11:9

“…for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,” Isaiah 46:9

It is important to not that it was Satan who first introduced this lie through the serpent to mankind that man could become a god. (Gen.3). It was this same sin that got him, (Lucifer) cast out of heaven, whose destiny is the lake of fire.  (Isaiah 14 & Rev. 20)

God is a Spirit

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:24

“…a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.”  Luke 24:39

“Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man,…” Romans 1:22-23

The Jesus of Mormonism

Not conceived of the Holy Ghost but by a physical relationship of the Mormon god, who is an exalted man.  “Now, remember from this time forth, and for ever that, Jesus Christ was not begotten by the Holy Ghost.  Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 1, p. 51

“Christ was begotten of God.  He was not born without the aid of man, and that Man was God!”  Doctrines of Salvation by Joseph Fielding Smith, Vol. 1, p. 18

Jesus and God the Father are Polygamists

“We have now clearly shown that God the Father had a plurality of wives, one or more being in eternity,…We have also proved that both God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ inherit their wives in eternity…” The Seer by Orson Pratt, Nov. 1883, p. 172

The only men who become Gods, even the Sons of God, are those who enter into polygamy.” Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol.11, p. 269  (Brigham Young stated that every sermon he preached was to be accepted as scripture.  Journal of Discourses, Vol. 13, p. 95)

Mormonism Worships a Different Christ

“…the Christ followed by the Mormons is not the Christ followed by traditional Christianity.”  Elder Benard P. Brockbank, The Ensign, May 1977, p. 26

“In bearing testimony of Jesus Christ, President Hinckley spoke of those outside the Church who say Latter-day Saints ‘do not believe in the traditional Christ.’ ‘No, I don’t.  The traditional Christ of whom they speak is not the Christ of whom I speak.’ “  Gordon B. Hinckley, LDS Church News, week ending June 20, 1998, p. 7

The Lord Jesus Himself warned; “…Take heed that no man deceive you.  For many shall come in my name,…and shall deceive man.”  Matthew 24:4-5

Is the Jesus of the Bible the same as the Jesus of Mormonsism?

The Jesus of the Bible

Born of a Virgin and Conceived by the Holy Ghost

“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.”  Matthew 1:18 (See also Isaiah 7:14 & Luke 1:26-35)

Not married

Jesus attended a marriage at Cana, but only as a guest. (John 2:1-11).  There are no references in the Bible that God The Father or Jesus were ever married.

If marriage and/or polygamy were such an important issue, then God would have given ine many indications that He was married, to one and/or multiple wives.

Jesus warns, “For there shall arise false Christs, And false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders;…Behold, I have told you before.” Matthew 24:24—25

The Mormon Jesus is unable to save “The world should know that since the Lord himself cannot save men in their sins,…” Miracle of Forgiveness by Spencer W. Kimball, p. 167

“…we are the only people that know how to save our progenitors, how to save ourselves, and how to save our posterity…we in fact are the saviours of the world,…” John Taylor, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 6, p. 163

“If it had not been for Joseph Smith and the restoration, there would be no salvation. There is no salvation outside The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”  Mormon Doctrine by Bruce R. McConkie, p. 670

The Mormon Gospel

“We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins;…” 4th Article of Faith of the LDS church

“…a code of laws and commandments whereby we might attain perfection and, eventually godhood.  This set of laws and ordinances is known as the gospel of Jesus Christ, and it is the only plan which will exalt mankind.  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the sole repository of this priceless program…”   Miracle of Forgiveness by Spencer W. Kimball, p. 6

The Jesus of the Bible is the One & Only Saviour of Mankind

“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”  Luke 2:11

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”  John 14:6

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:12

“…Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners;…” 1 Timothy 1:15

The Gospel

We have another Biblical warning her about those who would preach another gospel.  “but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.  But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”  Galatians 1:7-9

“…I declare unto you the gospel which I preached…By which also ye are saved,…how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”  1 Corinthians 15:1-4

“For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel:…” 1 Corinthians 1:17

Salvation by Works, Faith and Grace

“One of the most fallacious doctrines originated by Satan and propounded by man is that man is saved alone by the grace of God;…” Miracle of Forgiveness by Spencer W. Kimball, p. 206

“…for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do.”  Book of Mormon, 2 Nephi 25:23

“That by keeping the commandments they might be washed and cleansed from all their sins,…” Doctrine of Covenants 76:52

Two Types of Salvation in Mormonism

“…general salvation,…consists in the mere fact of being resurrected.”  “Immortality is a free gift and comes without works or righteousness of any sort; all men will come forth in the resurrection because of the atoning sacrifice of Christ…Immortality comes by grace alone, but those who gain it may find themselves damned in eternity.”  Mormon Doctrine by Bruce R. McConkie, p. 669 & 671

“…that which comes by grace coupled with gospel obedience,…This kind of salvation follows faith, repentance, baptism, receipt of the Holy Ghost, and continued righteousness to the end of one’s mortal probation.”  Mormon Doctrine by  Bruce R. McConkie, p. 669-670

Salvation by Grace through Faith

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”  Ephesians 2:8-9

“Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ,…for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.”  Galatians 2:16 & 21

The Lord Jesus shared many good examples of God’s grace to sinful man…In Luke 18:9-14 Jesus spoke of two men that went to the temple to pray.  A Pharisee and a publican.  The Pharisee was a very religious man who had a special priesthood, special garments, a temple and did many religious works.  The publican was a tax collector, many times extorting money from those he collected taxes from.  The Pharisee gloried in his religious works.  The publican, humbly asked, “God be merciful to me a sinner.” And Jesus said that it was the publican that went home justified or forgiven that day, not the religious Pharisee.  (Also see Luke 23:32-43)

“Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:”  Romans 3:24

“Joseph Smith taught that there were certain sins so grievous that man may commit, that they will place the transgressors beyond the power of the atoning blood of Christ.  If these offenses are committed, then the blood of Christ will not cleanse them from their sins even though they repent.  Therefore their only hope is to have their own blood shed to atone, as far as possible, in their behalf.”  Doctrines of Salvation by Joseph Fielding Smith, Volume 1, page 135

“Baptism … It is for the remission of sins.”  Mormon Doctrine by Bruce R. McConkie, page 70

“…Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins;…” LDS 4th Article of Faith

“There is no salvation outside the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”  Mormon Doctrine P. 60

“…it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.” Leviticus 17:11

“…without shedding of blood is no remission.” Hebrews 9:22

“In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins,…” Ephesians 1:7

“In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins,…” Colossians 1:14

“…and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”  1 John 1:7

“…Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,” Revelation 1:5

“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things,…received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ,…” 1 Peter 1:18-19

Joseph Smith stated he did greater works than Jesus

“…I have more to boast of than ever any man had.  I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together…Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it.  I boast that no man ever did such a work as I.  History of the Church, Vol. 6, p. 408-409

“…I am learned, and know more than all the world put together.”  Journal of Discourses, Vol. 6, p. 5

Concerning the Blacks

“..the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them.  And thus saith the Lord God: I will cause that they shall be loathsome…”  Book of Mormon, 2 Nephi 5:21-22

“And the skins of the Lamenites were dark, according to the mark which was set upon their fathers, which was a curse upon them because of their transgressions…” Book of Mormon, Alma 3:6

Concerning his Failed Prophecies

When one of Joseph Smith’s prophecies failed, he stated about his own prophecies, “Some revelations are of God: some revelations are of man: and some revelations are of the devil.”  An Address To All Believers In Christ by David Whitmer, pp. 30-31

Why would any one trust their eternal destiny on a man who claimed to be a prophet of God, yet did not know when his prophecies were from God, man or the devil?

Jesus said…

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”  Matthew 11:29

“For whosever exalteth himself shall be abased;”  Luke 14:11

Concerning how God looks at man “…for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.’ 1 Samuel 16:7

“God is no respector of persons” Acts 10:34

Concerning God’s Word

“For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” 2 Peter 1:21

As you can plainly see, Mormonism differs from Christianity at its very heart: Who God is, Jesus and The Gospel plan of salvation.  It is our prayer that all will see the deception that the devil has perpetrated on many dear souls.  That they will turn from trusting in a religion and their works and trust in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ for the salvation of their souls.

“He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.” John 12:48
